Pair of Antique Victorian Staffordshire "Flatback" Figurines (Late 19th Century)
Quality & Authenticity Note
Details
A charming glimpse into the heart of Victorian domestic life.
This delightful pair of antique English Staffordshire "flatback" figurines dates back to the late 19th century. Depicting a romantically dressed lady and gentleman, each gently holding a vibrant green parrot, they represent the quintessential folk art of the Victorian era. The flat, unadorned backs were ingeniously designed so the figures could sit perfectly flush against the wall on a narrow fireplace mantel. Characterized by their bright white glaze, hand-painted polychrome enamel details, and charmingly naive modeling, these sculptures bring a touch of historic English countryside romance to any curated interior.
