Quality & Authenticity Note
Details
A striking pair of Victorian English pottery jugs, beautifully illustrating the 19th-century European fascination with Chinoiserie.
Manufactured by the esteemed Staffordshire pottery Beech & Hancock in Tunstall between 1857 and 1876, these charming jugs feature the highly collectible "Pekin" pattern. The design consists of a detailed transfer print that has been vibrantly hand-colored with polychrome enamels over the glaze. The exotic scene depicts two figures in traditional Chinese dress amidst a garden of bamboo, oversized peonies, and tea-picking baskets, all framed by elegant geometric fretwork borders. Perfect for a country kitchen display or as unique decorative vases, they offer a brilliant pop of color and historic English charm.
