Late 19th-Century French Ecclesiastical Lamp with 1950s Botanical Silk Shade
Quality & Authenticity Note
Details
A sophisticated exercise in eclectic layering, this lamp is a dialogue between the solemnity of 19th-century French sacred art and the rhythmic joy of mid-century textile design.
The base, originally a precious ecclesiastical ornament from late 1800s France, is a masterpiece of gilded craftsmanship. It features a sculptural botanical composition of lilies and wild blooms, rising from a slender vase with delicate handles. The aged brass retains a deep, warm patina that only over a century of history can bestow. This "sacred" structure finds a new, secular life through a custom-made lampshade crafted from an authentic 1950s vintage fabric. The carmine red background of the textile serves as a dramatic stage for a lush white floral pattern, creating a chiaroscuro effect that is both theatrical and cozy. Finished with a gold-toned twisted fabric cord, it is a statement piece that bridges the divine and the domestic.
