Details

A rustic yet deeply sophisticated fragment of Mediterranean history, this storage jar with lid is an exceptional celebration of popular craftsmanship and organic textures.

The shapely pottery body is brought to life by a traditional "spongeware" (or spugnato) technique, featuring free-form, mottled patterns in vibrant copper green and soft manganese pink over a warm milky-cream glaze. The way the pigments intermingle creates a rich, pointillist texture that feels intensely modern and painterly. Originally crafted for preserving olives or vegetables in oil within rural Southern Italian households, it now stands as a striking sculptural vessel. It carries the authentic, silent markers of its utilitarian past: small glaze skips, firing flaws, and a gentle kiln-warping of the lid. It is "Everyday Poetry" in its rawest, most tactile form—an accent piece that anchors an interior with warmth, history, and a lived-in soul.
