Antique Colonial Tortoiseshell Bamboo Side Table / Nightstand (Late 19th Century)
Quality & Authenticity Note
Details
A charming piece of late 19th-century exoticism, this bamboo side table perfectly captures the era's fascination with Chinoiserie and Colonial design. This versatile piece, ideal as a tall bedside table, plant stand, or accent table, features a distinctive frame made of mottled or "burnt" bamboo, expertly crafted to imitate the luxurious look of tortoiseshell. The top, the drawer front, and the lower shelf are accented with tightly woven cane matting, adding a wonderful textural contrast to the smooth, spotted wood. A single, functional drawer offers convenient storage, while the decorative arched aprons beneath provide an elegant architectural touch. Its tall and narrow proportions make it perfect for tight spaces, bringing a warm, worldly, and bohemian atmosphere to any interior.
