Hand-Aged Besler Sabdariffa Print in Fully Wrapped William Morris Frame
Quality & Authenticity Note
Details
A breathtaking exercise in high-decorative drama, this curated artwork orchestrates a powerful dialogue between early 17th-century botanical precision and the vibrant, layered textiles of late 19th-century English design.
The piece showcases a masterfully hand-aged reproduction from Basilius Besler’s monumental Hortus Eystettensis (1613), commissioned by Prince-Bishop Johann Konrad von Gemmingen. The elegant composition centers on the striking, sculptural yellow blossoms of the Sabdariffa (famously known as Hibiscus sabdariffa), flanked by the slender stems of Kali Minus on the left and the delicate drooping bell-flowers of Campanula foliis serratis on the right. Through an artisanal antiquing process, the paper surface takes on a deep, amber-toned historical patina. What elevates this piece into a major decorative asset is its remarkable frame: the interior passepartout is hand-wrapped in a radiant golden ornamental pattern, while the entire outer frame is meticulously covered by hand in a deep bordeaux and vibrant fuchsia William Morris floral motif. This total textile immersion creates an incredible tridimensional depth—a definitive example of "Everyday Poetry" designed to anchor an eclectic interior.
