Details

A spectacular example of the Victorian obsession with organic textures and vibrant glazes, this soup tureen is a masterclass in 19th-century Majolica.

The body features a deep, molded geometric lattice pattern intertwined with foliate reliefs, all brought to life by a rich "tortoiseshell" glaze in shades of forest green, burnt ochre, and deep umber. The way the colors melt into the relief creates a painterly depth that feels incredibly modern despite its historical roots. Standing at 23 cm tall, it is a piece of significant sculptural presence. It carries a documented "mark of history": a vertical hairline crack on the side, a soulful scar that attests to its over 130-year journey. It is "Everyday Poetry" in its most material and unapologetic form—a centerpiece that doesn't just decorate a room, but narrates a story.
